Astoria is the oldest city in the state of Oregon. In 1810, a New York fur trader by the name of John Jacob Astor sent men to the area with the goal of establishing a trading post. It is now the oldest settlement west of the Rocky Mountains, named after John Jacob Astor.

Things To Do Around Astoria
Fort Stevens State Park
Fort Stevens served as a military base from the Civil War up until World War II. It was used to guard the mouth of the Columbia River.
Today the park includes two picnic areas, a disk golf course, 15 miles of multi use trails, kayak tours, a boat launch, and much more! The park also offers year round camping, with 174 full hookup sites.
Whether you are craving a beach or a forest, Fort Stevens has it all! You can even tour the 90 year old underground gun battery, and don’t forget to check out the famous Peter Iredale Shipwreck!
Astoria River Walk
For a tour of the cities waterfront, head down to the Astoria River Trail! The trail takes you underneath the famous Astoria-Megler Bridge and by the Maritime Memorial. You won’t miss the barking Sea Lions basking by the docks, and it is likely you’ll even find some shipwrecks along the way!

Cape Disappointment
30 minutes outside of Astoria, Cape Disappointment is a 2,023-acre camping park on Long Beach. Enjoy the rich history at the Lewis and Clarke interpretive center, dig up clams on Benson Beach, or find overgrown ruins of military bunkers! Cape Disappointment will certainly notdisappoint you!
Young River Falls
Young River Falls is a 50 foot waterfall 15 minutes outside Astoria. The falls have been featured in films such as Free Willy 2, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3! It is a short, family friendly walk to reach these falls.
