Deemed one of the worlds most unforgettable stretches of coastline, almost 90 miles alongside Highway 1. Big Sur has dramatic scenery including sheer cliffs, redwood forests and stunning beaches that make it one of the most breathtaking places to camp in the world! It is also the final stop on our California Road Trip.

Things To Do Around Big Sur, California

Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park

Located in the heart of Big Sur, this state park includes nearly 200 camp sites! The park offers miles of hiking trails, with local favorites such as the Buzzards Roost Trail that shows hikers a panoramic ocean view, and Pfeiffer Falls Trailthat leads to a 60 foot waterfall. The park is also open for day use with plenty of picnic areas to enjoy. Check out Pfeiffer Beach to see the purple sand for yourself, and don’t miss the keyhole rock formation photo opportunity!

Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park

Home to the famous McWay Falls! There is even a overlook on the side of Highway 101 that offers an amazing view of the falls.

Limekiln State Park

Limekiln State Park offers 24 campsites, half ocean and half redwood sites. Visitors can enjoy the marine life and swim in the Limekiln Creek. Follow the Limekiln Trailover three scenic bridges to the site of giant steel and stone ancient kilns, and then you may even find the 100 foot waterfall along the way!

Hearst San Simeon State Park

This park includes over 200 campsites to stay at! Visitors can tour the Elephant Seal Boardwalk for an ideal vantage point to observe these marine mammals. It is also home to Hearst Castle, which can be viewed by guided tours.

Point Lobos State Natural Reserve

Point Lobos is one of the best places in Big Sur for sightseeing, photography, picnicking, diving, and jogging. It has one of the richest underwater habitats in the world, with wildlife such as seals, sea lions, sea otters and whales! It is abundant in hiking trails that lead into hidden coves, and there is even an on site “Whalers Cabin” that is a cultural history museum.

Point Lobos is one of the best places in Big Sur for sightseeing, photography, picnicking, diving, and jogging.
