Things To Do Around Helena
In 1864, four prospectors struck gold in an area they called the “Last Chance Gulch.” Today, the Last Chance Gulch is the name of a major road in the heart of downtown. Along here lies the popular Walking Mall, a street block that is closed to vehicles and lined with shops, restaurants and galleries. Keep an eye out for the outdoor art installations and exhibits scattered throughout the area.
A shorter, less popular walking street is the ancient Reeders Alley. The oldest intact piece of early Helena, this street served as a housing complex for miners in the 1800’s.

Broadwater Hot Springs
Broadwater Hot Springs are Helena’s only geothermal mineral hot springs, offering a unique and relaxing experience for visitors seeking to unwind and rejuvenate in the midst of nature. The natural hot springs are believed to have healing properties and are sure to soothe any aches and pains. There are several pools, and even a spa!
Marysville
At the foot of Mount Belmont is Marysville, a semi ghost town that was once home to one of Montana’s richest, longest operating gold mines -The Drumlummon Mine. Thanks to the gold rush, Marysville was a bustling town in the early 1900’s, but the population plummeted due to the ban on gold mining during the war. Today, the town has a very small population, but makes for a great tourist stop for visitors to explore!
Gates of the Mountains
The Gates of the Mountains Wilderness is a remarkable sight to behold. The canyon is created by limestone cliffs that tower over 1,200 feet above the canyon floor. It’s no wonder that these beautiful cliffs inspired Lewis to name the area the Gates of the Mountains. The Refrigerator Canyon Trail is a scenic trail that leads to the Gates of the Mountains.
