For RV owners who want more freedom off-grid, a well-planned power upgrade can make a major difference. Recently, a customer with a Jayco Jay Feather travel trailer came in for a full electrical upgrade designed to improve battery capacity, solar charging, and 120V power availability while camping.
The upgrade included three main improvements: two additional 200-watt solar panels, a 200Ah lithium battery, and a 3000-watt inverter with transfer switch and remote. The work order confirms the install included two 200W rigid solar panels tied into the prewired solar system, a Renogy 12V 200Ah lithium battery with low-temperature protection, and a Go Power 3000W inverter system.

Traveland supplied and installed:
• Two additional 200W rigid solar panels
• Solar panel mounting kits with brackets and hardware
• MC4 solar cables and connectors
• One 12V 200Ah lithium battery
• Battery box and upgraded battery cables
• 3000W Go Power inverter with transfer switch and remote
• Proper junction box, fusing, connectors, and cable routing
Why this upgrade matters
The added solar gives the trailer more ability to recharge during the day, reducing generator use and extending dry camping time.
The lithium battery upgrade gives the customer more usable capacity than a standard lead-acid battery setup, with better performance, faster charging, and less voltage drop under load.
The 3000W inverter allows the customer to run select 120V appliances from battery power when shore power is not available, depending on load and battery state of charge.
Installation details
The photos show the battery conversion at the front of the trailer, upgraded cable routing, protected wiring, and the roof-mounted solar panels. The roof work included sealed mounting points and cable pass-throughs, using proper sealant around the solar mounts and wiring entry points.
This is the kind of install where clean routing, correct protection, proper sealing, and system planning matter. Solar and inverter upgrades are not just about adding parts. They need to be installed so the system is safe, serviceable, and reliable.
